I haven't been neglectful as much as I have been CURSED! The doggie "killed" my laptop--somehow he knocked it off the table and stepped on (or bit) the screen. Bye Bye laptop!
Oh well. Scott helped me hook up another screen to it, and it works fine. It is just awkward, and isn't portable anymore. Maybe that's good.... no more sitting on the couch in front of the TV with my laptop all day..... (erp!)
The lovely lemony smell of poundcake is wafting through the house. I took a couple days off from work to bake for Eva's bridal shower. The party is Saturday morning. The rest of the crew (Andrea, Mom, Dad, Eva, Josh) is hard at work at Mom's baking and prepping. It will be quite a smorgasbord! (like it isn't any other time we all get together.....) The girls and I won't be part of the fun until late Friday night. Alannah has rehearsal until 5:15, so it will be another late, long drive for us.
I went into school to drop off all my grading (done!) and stuff from my teaching stint. I tried not to be too depressed that the new teacher had all kinds of new and exciting things all over the classroom. She is really neat--young, energetic, creative. The school had me stay a couple days to see her settled, but she didn't really need me at all. She charmed the pants off the students right away, and I doubt they even miss me all that much! I joked to the department chair that I was guilty of being a little disappointed that the new teacher seemed like a great pick--I would have enjoyed going on fantasizing that I was the "good" one.... hahahahaha. I know I did a good job--there is room in the world for many cool teachers.
I think my family is very glad that I am not teaching for a few days. Suddenly the house doesn't smell like wet pet, there is real food on the table and we can see the floors! I hadn't realized how out of touch I have been until I did the laundry: I counted at least ten pairs of underwear...... OOPS! I don't think that I am really up to working full time any time soon.
The snow is all gone, which amazes me. I was sure that it wouldn't be gone until July. The lake is still pretty frozen, though. I still see people out there fishing. You couldn't pay me to walk out there--there is a few feet of water around the edge--Scott tells me that it is still super thick, but.... yikes! Today it is raining, but it is still warmer--40-50--yesterday was a gorgeous balmy 63. I hung out a bunch of the wash....mmmmmmmmmm. Spring air off the lake is DIVINE.
Ok, I am going to go invert the pound cake and soak it with lemonade brandy syrup before I go get Alannah for our eye appointments. Tomorrow I am baking Pecan Coffee Cake muffins.... YUMMY.
