Today is Aidan's 12th birthday! It was quite a day. Her big wish was to have her room redecorated, so that's what we did. Monday Grandma Gray came and we went to Bed, Bath and Beyond to find new bedding. They found very cute bed sets that included pretty much everything from the comforter and bedskirt to shams, decorative pillows, wall decorations and even a canopy. We have been collecting new curtains and other stuff all week.
Today we went and got the paint, and me and all four kids painted Aidan and Susie's room turquoise and candy pink. (yes, I am a candidate for INSANITY!!!) I am very glad that I mustered up the patience to let all the kids help paint. We were all crammed in there with rollers, edgers and brushes. At supper Dan was just busting his buttons. He said: "Scott, I bet you are glad Mommy borned me because that painting wouldn't be so good without my help!" It really wasn't that bad. They were all very good at keeping things tidy, and helping to clean up afterwords. By late afternoon we had two coats on, and it was dry.
After dinner--steak, baked potatoes, fresh corn--we had Aidan's cake. I have been relinquishing control of the birthday cakes to the older girls. I used to decorate them myself, but the older girls seem to like planning and doing their own. Aidan made hers into a house in honor of her design interests. It turned out cute, but she kind of messed up the frosting--just threw all the ingredients in the bowl, melted the butter.... YES, creaming the butter and sugar makes a difference!!!! ACK. But... no worries, and the kids didn't seem to mind one bit.
At dinner the kids had me tell all their birth stories. It is amazing how that never gets old for them!
Now they are out watching a Disney Channel special. Scott is sleeping-his shoulder and back are still bothering him and often leave him very tired at the end of the day. It is over at 9:30 so I am trying to rush this on here so you all can enjoy the birthday pics and the new room.
Tomorrow we are going to try and do some fun family things and take it easy. It will be our first weekend together as a family in a lonnnnggg time.
God Bless! :)
